Meet Our Featured Cadet: David Gigrich!
David is a Junior Civil Engineering Major in Squadron 20 from Lorton, Virginia! He first joined the cav because it was a great opportunity to learn something new about horses and himself. He said, “I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and be a part of something unique to Aggieland.” David is looking forward to becoming a better rider and participating in off campus rides during his time as a cav jock!
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Justin Penev!
Justin is a Senior Aerospace Engineering Major with a Mathematics Minor in Squadron 20 from Irvine, California! His favorite memory from his time in the cav has been riding into campus! He said about the experience, “It’s really rewarding to see all the hours of training and preparation culminate in an operation where we get to make families smile and answer questions about the unit and our horses.” Justin is looking forward to mentoring the junior class both on horseback and in the leather shop during his senior year! When asked what he has learned so far in the cav he said, “One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned so far has been how crucial it is to stay calm when a situation, especially around horses, doesn’t go as planned. Also, it’s important to take a moment to appreciate the blessings we’ve been given.”
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Sara Naylor!
Sara is a Junior Animal Science Major with a focus in beef production in Company G-1 from FairPlay, Colorado! She currently serves on the 3rd Regiment Staff. When asked why she joined the cav she said, “I grew up around horses, riding my whole life both competitively and for fun. After I joined the Corps, I learned about the Cav and I knew I had to join! I love the Cav because being outside and working with animals reminds me of home, making the Green truly a slice of heaven.” Sara is looking forward to expanding her horsemanship skills and working with other cadets to appreciate the smarts and strengths of horses!
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Bryson Mclaughlin!
Bryson is a Senior Agricultural Economics Major in Squadron 17 from Columbia, Maryland! His favorite memory in the cav was traveling down to Mission, Texas for the citrus parade. Bryson is looking forward to training the juniors and watching them grow and take ownership of the Cav during his senior year! When asked what he has learned during his time in PMC he said, “Working with horses has taught me to work with a lot of patience and to work to be more consistent in whatever I do.”
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Patrick Baty!
Patrick is a Senior Environmental Geoscience Major in Company F-1 from San Antonio, Texas! His favorite memory from his time in the Cav was attending the Citrus Parade this past spring. When asked about the experience he said, “It was amazing getting to see all the Aggies in the area come out to see us ride by and listen to them cheer for us. It was also really cool to hear the War Hymn playing from a church along the parade route.” Patrick is looking forward to expanding his skills as a rider during his senior year! He said, “I’ve only ridden horses for about two years and I know there is some much more I can learn and perfect. Joining the Cav has been an amazing experience for me and an opportunity to learn to ride horses that I was never expecting to have.”
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Preston Ward!
Preston is a Junior Economics Major in D-2 from Chattanooga, Tennessee! When asked why he wanted to join the cav he said, “I saw it as an opportunity to experience something very few get to do. Parsons has been a great learning experience, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.” Preston is looking forward to being able to improve his horsemanship skills, as well as create many new friendships throughout his next two years at A&M as a cav jock!
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Garrick McCarthy!
Garrick is a Senior Animal Science Major in A2 from Katy, Texas! His favorite memory in the cav was his first ride in seeing all of the families and kids that come out just to watch the cav ride by! Garrick is looking forward to really cherishing his last semester here as I he rides into the last football games ever with the cav! When asked what he has learned from the cav, he said, “I have learned to truly enjoy and cherish the time you have with what you enjoy because it doesn’t always last forever.”
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Ethan Kliewer!
Ethan is a Junior Public Health Major in Squadron 20 from San Antonio, Texas! When asked why he wanted to join the cav he said, “I joined PMC to get a unique riding experience, one that is not offered to many people around the world. There is no other route that I could have gone to get a similar experience on my own, as well as also being able to share this experience with my buddies.” Ethan is looking forward to the day he gets to ride into Kyle Field for the first time as a cav jock!
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Jordan Hosein!
Jordan is a Senior Physics Major with a Astrophysics Minor in S-1 from Orlando, Florida! Some of his favorite memories from his time in the cav include riding the entire duration of March to the Brazos, getting to know and hang out with his cav buddies on the Citrus Parade trip, and his first ride in as a cav jock. He said “The cav played a major role in gaining my interest while doing SNWC and JCAP into looking at Texas A&M. It was surreal to be where I had hoped to be a couple years prior and humbling to hopefully be inspiring other kids in the public to take interest in Texas A&M, the Corps, and the Cav.” Jordan is looking forward to getting to ride into games despite the current state of things and to help bring up a new class of Cav jocks to continue the legacy and traditions of PMC. When asked what he has learned so far from his time in the cav he said, “Two of the biggest things I’ve learned are patience and determination through the cav. Some days you may have a difficult horse or a learning curve where you feel you can’t do anything correctly. However, taking your time to breath, think, and work with your horse can make all the difference and instills the same mindset dealing with any other difficult tasks in life. Stay calm, breath, and get back up right away when knocked down.”
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Ryan Goolsby
Ryan is a Senior Animal Science Major in Company E-2 from Sugar Land, Texas! His favorite memory was riding guidon through Kyle Field and traveling with the unit to Mission, Texas for the Citrus Parade. Ryan said that he has learned during his time in the cav that it’s okay to make mistakes, to ask a lot of questions, and always be open to constructive criticism. When asked what he is looking forward to during his senior year he said, “I am looking forward to seeing the juniors grow and develop into outstanding leaders in the Cav. This will definitely make me feel like the hard work I’ve put into the unit has come full circle. “
Meet Our Featured Cadet: William Wallace!
William is a Senior Construction Science Major in C-1 from Onalaska, Texas! His favorite memory in the cav was his first ride-in. He said, “My family was able to see me ride into Kyle Field and how I had grown through PMC. Also, the experience of riding through the crowds and seeing how happy people are when PMC rides through is such a unique and inspiring experience.” William is looking forward to having the opportunity to continue riding, teaching our juniors, and helping take care of the green to carry on the traditions that are instilled in the Cavalry during his Senior year. When asked what he has learned during his time in the cav he said, “I have learned discipline, confidence, and better horsemanship skills. People don’t often think about what can be learned from working with a horse. As college students we often think that there must be complex solutions to problems. However, when you work with horses you learn to slow down, think things out, and that sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.”
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Robert Rodriguez!
Robert is a Senior Agribusiness Major in L-1 from Austin, Texas! His favorite memory from his time in the Cav was being the first platoon guidon for the South Carolina game! Robert said that the cav has taught him leadership, discipline, and a strong work ethic. When asked what he is looking forward to during his senior year he said, “As a senior in PMC I’m looking forward to the next time I get to be out at The Green. Every day out there is a blessing. I’m so grateful for everything PMC has done for me.”
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Luis Andres Pineda!
Luis is a Senior University Studies- Business Major in C-Company from Tampico, Tamaulipas/ McAllen, Texas! He said that his favorite memory from his time in the cav so far was riding in the Citrus Parade in Mission, Texas last year. He said, “Mission is right next to McAllen so my family got to see me ride and it was a lot of fun to ride on horseback through the same streets that I used to drive through growing up.” Luis is looking forward to working with the incoming classes throughout his senior year! He said, “PMC is one of A&M’s greatest traditions and I hope to see it succeed for years to come.”
Meet Our Featured Cadet: Brian Nicpon!
Brian is a Senior Sociology Major in Company C-2 from Suffern, New York. He said that he has learned from his time in the cav that, “horses and mules can teach you a lot of life lessons like patience and understanding and I have learned how to keep calm in stressful situations. Most importantly, I have learned how fun and fulfilling working with horses and mules is.” Brian’s favorite memory from his time in the cav so far was driving the wagon into Kyle Field last season in front of his family visiting from New York! Brian is looking forward to working through this COVID-19 environment and adapting to all of the challenges it brings during his senior year. He said, “I am excited to carry the responsibility of keeping the tradition of the corps and the cav alive through these difficult and confusing times.”
